Meet the Artist : Hilary Paynter

Top UK wood engraver Hilary Paynter will be in the gallery to coincide with her current exhibition Age of Enlightenment, which offers a refreshing view of age and ageing. The Exhibition

Age of Enlightenment is at White Moose Gallery, Barnstaple, from 5 August – 15 September.

  1. Meeting Hilary to chat about wood-engraving is always fascinating, mainly due to her huge passion for the art form and its history. Hearing about using the old wood blocks in itself is a great story, hence I’m really looking forward to welcoming Hilary to White Moose on 31st August as there is always something new to discover about this ancient skill.

  2. Hilary’s work is really beautiful, is well executed using a time consuming method, and the resulting art works are just fabulous, offering contemporary social comment ,juxtaposed with the time honoured tradition of wood engraving. Not to be missed!
