Jill Rousseau, who moved to Bideford last year (2015) to open her gallery in Bideford, talks about showing artists’ work, drawing on her 22 years experience owning galleries in other locations.
Janis Glover and Eilean Eland know one another well and are showing their work at the Jill Rouseau Gallery‘s Art Trek event in September. Although Janis is a painter and Eileen is a ceramicist, they share a love of nature and its forms.
Jill believes that exhibiting two makers who know each other is very important, and that between them, they will put together a well-balanced and cohesive display of work.
The Move to North Devon
The rich history of clay, and some wonderful potters who have worked in North Devon over the years, drew Jill to Bideford as the perfect place to set up her gallery.
Since opening, the Gallery has started to build a reputation for beautiful high quality ceramics with a wide price range. Jill firmly believes that Art should be for everyone!
Many of the makers shown in the Jill Rouseau Gallery are exclusive to this gallery in North Devon, and some, such as Jack Doherty, Hilary Mayo and Chris Keenan show their work in the New Craftsman in St Ives, which is well known as the finest ceramic based gallery outside of London.
Joint Shows With Artist Friends
Artists get feedback, encouragement and inspiration from other artists, and gain from the friendship that often ensues. Joint Exhibitions by artists who know each other or work alongside one another make for interesting and varied viewing for art lovers everywhere.
