Tanya Gaffney-Greetham 2016

A display of oil paintings by Tanya GG, depicting underwater scenes, exploring the symbolism of philosophical ideas, plus some drawings too!

About The Artist

Tanya Gaffney-Greetham was born in Surrey in 1985, but raised in Holland and Belgium until she was thirteen, when she moved back to the UK to continue her education. After graduating from the University of Creative Arts with a BA in Animation Arts in 2008, she moved to North Devon and began working as a pencil portrait artist, whilst continuing to develop her abilities in painting and sculpture.

In 2011 she moved to Leeds with her partner (whilst he furthered his education), during which time she developed her skills in graphic & web design, and took a short course in screen printing. In 2014 she returned to Devon, missing the wild freedom of the countryside and surf. She started running life drawing sessions that year, and began working as Arts Manager for Broomhill Art Hotel in 2015, after joining North Devon Arts.

Being immersed in the arts culture of North Devon has had a huge positive effect on the driving forces behind Tanya’s work. Understanding the need for a balance between technical ability and “duende”, she has been studying the writings of Freud and Jung, in the hopes that it will reveal more about her psyche, and help her to develop a stronger artistic voice. In January 2016 she started the “drawing-a-day” challenge to maintain a level of technical ability, whilst working on paintings and sculptures exploring philosophical ideas.

Draycotts have kindly offered their venue to Tanya so she can show her work in there for the NDArt Trek event.
